I've noticed that many people, including myself, create art for the wrong reasons. Today I realized that I often post things on DA in search of praise, and I've realized that just isn't right. I came to this realization after reading a very down-to-earth article:
[link] (a small warning, there is a tiny bit of language that might be considered offensive ~I'm used to it, sadly~)
After reading this article by a seasoned artist, I've decided that I'm only going to keep art as a hobby and get a career that will pay the bills. Although this sounds disappointing, it's practical.
To be honest, my real goal in life is to be a successful wife and mother, not a famous artist. (I suppose that makes me a boring person who believes in the joy of family).
I have an interest in improving my artistic skills, but only as a hobby.
If one day I am meant to be a famous artist, okay, but it won't be because I marketed myself. I've made the decision that I'm going to do it because I love it, not because I want anyone's approval.
Faves, comments, and compliments are nice, but I'm not going to be yearning for them any longer. I post my art because I like it, if anyone else likes it, that's wonderful for them and I'm happy that I could enhance someone's day, if only for a moment. If people ask about my hobbies, I'll mention art. If they want to see it, I'll show it to them, but I am no longer going to ask people if they want to see.
I think I'm going to upload more of my random doodles (they will be scrapped for anyone who wants to look). If I had a scanner, I'd put more up here. But, alas, I do not. For now, it's crappy digital photos.
Seeking approval only adds stress to your life and is often disappointing; I have decided to remove this ridiculous unnecessary stress from my life.

I feel better already.
Perhaps I can grow as an artist.
Loves,
Melissa
P.S. I'm not distracted, DA is just being retarded and won't let me change my mood. I'm actually feeling quite determined.
